How to Navigate Gigapan Interactive Panoramic Images
Because each lesson begins with a Gigapan image, it is important to be able to use the Gigapan’s Google-like controls. We’ll use one as a practice example now. Try this:
1. Go to Hawk’s Bluff Scrub 1 (be sure it is Scrub 1).
2. Clicking on the image brings it to life. Play with the + and – buttons or use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out, and move around in the image. Get good at that skill. Left, right, up, down, hokey-pokey.
3. Try the diagonal double arrow on the right to go to full screen. Once there, you will see a button to click to return to the smaller screen.
4. In the lower left corner click on the word “snapshots." A series of thumbnails will appear. Each thumbnail snapshot pinpoints a feature of interest, usually a species. Click on each one.
When you click on a snapshot, an arrowhead appears in a small partial screen to the left. Click on the arrowhead to start a video to learn more about the species in the snapshot. A short narrated slideshow will play.
The four-headed arrow in the small narration-screen allows you to toggle the slideshow to full screen, and there is an option to return to the small screen.
